The horses are settled in Cardiff...

May 21, 2018

It has been a busy few weeks here at Sam Thomas Racing, we have completed the move to Cardiff and the majority of horses are enjoying their summer holidays here out to grass. Since our last blog we've had plenty of runners which included a few winners! Dancing Doug made his hurdles debut at Plumpton and finished 2nd in a sprint finish to the line, he came out of it well and he's one that we're very much looking forward to next season, he remains a novice for the season ahead and should have no problem getting his head in front. He is now enjoying a well deserved holiday back with his owner Warwick Beswick in North Wales.

The Cannister Man made light work of the heavy ground a month ago at Exeter to win the maiden hurdle for his owners Eamon and Keith, with Charlie Deutsch on board. He's an exciting horse for next season and we look forward to getting him going again here in Cardiff after his holidays. Diamond Racing's Iwilldoit made his debut over hurdles this week at Kempton, he jumped well throughout the race to finish 3rd, he will now go back to his breeder Stan Brown for his

holiday, he is a horse we feel will benefit greatly for a good summer where we hope he will come in even stronger.

Not a Role Model got us off the mark from our new yard, putting in a fine front running and jumping performance at Kempton in the handicap chase with Richard Patrick claiming a valuable 5lb on board, it was great to get loyal owners St Mamadasado their first winner. Not a Role Model has come out of the race very well and we will look to get him out again in the next few weeks.

Powerstown Park took the trip to Southwell Tuesday evening making his handicap debut in a 3 mile hurdle, he made the running jumping well throughout the race before getting tired in the last few furlongs. The time was actually a second faster than the last race which was also run over 3 miles which was a 0-120 handicap so there are lots of positives to take out of the race and we'll hopefully pick up a race or two this summer.

We only have a handful in training at the moment, but the long list of young horses that need breaking in is keeping us busy. The fantastic facilities that are all onsite make the breaking in process very easy and it is satisfying job seeing them all progress!
