The Big Move

We are excited to announce that Sam Thomas Racing has now moved to the famous yard, Saxon House Stables, Lambourn.

A little about our new home…

Grade II listed and one of Lambourn’s most famous training yards, Saxon House Stables was once home to the legendary Fulke Walwyn, trainer of the late Queen Mother's horses and '62/'63 Gold Cup winners Mandarin and Mill House. We have also discovered the yard’s ‘Wall of Fame’ which has some remarkable photos, including one which shows Saxon House Stables’ 1800th winner!

It is perfectly situated in the ‘Valley of the Racehorse’ with access to the very best facilities, including the Lambourn Training Grounds, which boasts 14 miles of turf gallops and artificial tracks. The stables itself has just over 30 boxes, a horse walker and extensive grazing, with plenty of room for future development. We anticipate our horses to thrive in their new surroundings, especially as we have given the yard a complete refresh, thanks to the help of Yard & Stable Hygiene Services.

This week the horses have been settling in and enjoying the sunshine. Work is still on-going as the yards older features are now being tended to, however restoration is progressing well and soon everything will be finished, ready for the season ahead.

I feel privileged to be able to train out of such a historical yard and look forward to enjoying some of the success that previous trainers have enjoyed here.

Special thanks goes to my parents for all their help, our owners for their loyal support, John Beswick for his kind generosity, to everyone who has been involved with the move to Saxon House and to Tori and her family for the leg up with my training career at Winterwell Farm.

It’s been a busy time for us but I will endeavour to keep you updated. In the mean time follow us on Facebook and Instagram for daily posts!

Thanks for reading, Sam
