Glentrool gets his head in front!
Since the last blog a few weeks ago we have had plenty of runners, some making their racecourse debuts. One of these doing so was Diamond Racing's Iwilldoit, he ran an encouraging race in testing conditions and took the whole experience in his stride. He is big baby who will only improve with time, having come out of the race well we are looking to get him out again at the end of this month. The following day saw Sirobbie making his racecourse debut at Fakenham, he is one of the 3 we bought from the Land rover sales back in the summer as a 3 year old. Sirobbie travelled away nicely, showing a little bit of greenness which is to be expected, to finish a very encouraging 4th. He seems to have improved for the run and we would like to get him out once more before he has a well deserved holiday.
Little Allstar managed to get a run at Huntingdon before all the snow stopped play, he jumped and traveled well throughout, but should find it all a little easier once he has a handicap mark. The beast from the East then made an appearance which put a hold on things, we managed to get the horses out all but one day which is pretty good going and a big thank you has to go to everyone at Saxon House for working hard in testing conditions, as well as the ground staff at the Jockey Club for keeping the gallops running!
The snow all soon melted and we were back on track last week, Wednesday saw a busy day with Lancaster Rose taking the trip to Catterick to make her racecourse debut, she ran a promising race in heavy conditions to finish 3rd in a competitive looking mares bumper. We feel she will have learnt a lot from this and should come on for the run, all being well we will look to get her out again in the next few weeks. We had 3 runners at Fontwell as well, The Cannister Man and Powerstown Park ran in the maiden hurdle. The Cannister Man ran a really good race travelling and jumping well, to finish 2nd behind a very nice prospect. He is a horse that continues to improve with every run and we are looking forward to the future with him.
Powerstown Park also ran really well, the softer going wouldn't be his ideal ground, so we were pleased to see him travel well to finish a good 4th. Last but definitely not least(!) was Dancing Doug in the bumper, he ran another great race to finish 2nd, we will see how he comes out of the race as to whether we run him once more or put him away until next season.
Thursday saw a long trip up north to Carlisle with Glentrool, he is a horse that loves these testing conditions and this showed with him travelling well throughout the race to get his head in front to win with James Davies on board. A big well done to all his connections and the team at Saxon House Stables, it was great to get a winner on the board!
The rain seems to continue to be falling as I write this, which isn't ideal for a few of our horses who we are holding on to until the ground dries up but they are ready to go as soon as this happens. We have a couple of entries this week.
Lastly the Malina's 4 year old that was backed in February is cantering away nicely now in the string, he has taken to life as a racehorse very easily and is always looking to please! Bruno as he is known at home is for sale, so please get in touch if you'd like to know more.
